Point of Reference

Random thoughts and musings of a passionate observer and participant, who’s living, learning and evolving from his life’s experiences.

This blog is a ‘point of reference’ for me and an opportunity to share with you some of my thoughts and musings on things I have experienced and encountered in my life.  A representation of my perpetual curiosity and quest of constant learning as well as slight insight into my frantic mind and personality.

Maybe you’ll connect with it, find it interesting, gain some information, form an opinion, or maybe not.

Mini-Bio

I was born in Washington Heights, Manhattan, moved to Staten Island at ten and went through the predictable phases like bad haircuts, skateboarding, listening to Hip Hop, The Smiths and feeling rebellious.  Throughout my life like a “fly on the wall” I experienced and got inspired by New York’s progressive and creative (sub)cultures; observing, learning, and sometimes participating, which helped me to grow personally and later professionally.  So far I’ve lived in every New York borough except The Bronx, except when I moved to Buffalo for work, and now currently residing in Chinatown.

Work

I skipped college, but was able to literally ‘work’ through it, starting with a short stint on Wall Street.  After realizing that world wasn’t for me, I luckily was able to network through friends and work for Transatlantic publication Trace Magazine where I sold ad pages, handled marketing and contributed articles.  I then began working for Triple 5 Soul handling the brand’s marketing, PR and advertising.  I’ve also had the opportunity to work for Royal Elastics as well as New Era Cap Company, evolving from marketing to brand and product management.

Like many others, I’vee been effected by the recession and the last couple of years freelancing on various projects that I’m absolutely grateful for. A current passion project I’m working on is helping to launch a youth-education based non-profit.  I’ve also been using the time to go back to school and apply my experience to gain my degree, which has been a refreshing experience.

I am available for full-time hire or consulting on advertising, marketing, branding, product management as well as new and social media.
